an apology

i broke my blog. please bear with me while i try to figure out what i did to break and how to fix it. if it looks a little bit wonky, i apologize. i am working to fix the problem. the appearance may make a radical change.

that's why we can't have nice things around here.

i'm looking at it as a makeover.

popcorn

i haven't been blogging lately because i have had some type of evil disease, which i strongly believed may have been a gift from my grandchildren. it snowed the week before valentine's day, a hard snow that came out of nowhere. my son called us and we ended up picking up the grandchildren at their school, as root and chicky were both at work and unable to pick them up.

they stayed the night and the next day, as their school was closed. it was easier just to keep them here rather than add in 4 trips back and forth to our house. we had a ball- we made snowcream, then had snow-cones the next day. they ate 6 bags of microwave popcorn and i fear that we got a case of popcorn flu lung disease. you know little kids are just walking cooties. their mother works at a hospital, so you know she comes home superinfected from every bug there is out there.

as i mention, we don't have heat except for space heaters. the kids slept in my bed and even with a queen-sized bed, there wasn't a lot of room. we piled every available blanket on the bed and ended up with 5! the kids loved it because i made them lay down and i made the bed over them. they tossed and tumbled and did all kinds of nocturnal gymnastics. i woke up once to go the bathroom and they were so intertwined, they formed an X. when i went to go back to bed they had a + sign. i rolled them back into a normal semblance of organized sleep. itchy was sleeping upside down and had pulled the top blanket up close on both sides, so it was like a sleeping bag. i think we will sleep like this on purpose next time.

i didn't have any clothes for them to sleep in, so they ended up wearing my t-shirts and each had a pair of spa socks. they stayed nice and toasty. we played a convoluted game of monopoly where we start out playing as 3 players, itchy and scratchy always pool their resources and loan each other money, so at some point i will overpay the rent and make myself broke. then they spend the next hour counting up all the money they won. they also played "the price is right" on the nintendo ds, and they get so excited when they win. i always cheer and clap for them. they scream and jump up and down. hilarity ensues. haha.

relations with their mother is very strained. she always has chris call me to do things for her. i think she is afraid to come to the house without chris because she is afraid i will jump her and kick her stupid butt. i am always very cordial to her, but she is very guarded with me. i don't care anymore.

lately, root, bobo and i have been going out to lunch together at some chinese place on saturday-  lots of variety and it has macaroni and cheese, chicken-on-stick and pizza for the kids to eat while i get my sushi fix. the kids love the rubbery jell-o and mandarin oranges, while i stick to cantaloupe, honeydew melon and pineapple. we missed last week because bobo and i were ill with some disease that probably would have killed off a colony of pioneers. i think we will live. we were so sick we haven't bought anything except popsicles and soup for 2 weeks. we ate out one night when we were both feeling better. i decided it would be good to sleep sitting up, so that if i were to actually toss my cookies, i would have a headstart. luckily, i slept surprising well. but i was sick as a dog again the next morning.

i want to revisit the restaurant, which just opened new year's eve. they have a seafood buffet, the crown jewel being HUGE shrimp boiled in cajun seasoning. i want to go back when i can eat more than just a couple, which i did this time to try and baby my stomach. when i go back, i plan on eating at least a dozen. they have a decent salad bar but i think i will bring some bacon bits from home. they didn't have any. bacon makes everything better anyway.

i am going to try to blog more now that i am among the living, not feeling like one of the living dead.

what's going on with you?

long time ago

i haven't been posting- heck, i haven't even been online much lately- because the grandkids gave me some kind of flu. the weather has been absolutely nuts- 1 foot of snow last week, 70 degrees today- and my son asked me to pick up the kids the day of the big snowstorm. the kids ended up spending the night and the next day because their school was closed and everybody else had to work. they slept in my bed and i guess their germs incubated in me while they slept. i have lost 10 lbs. since last week, so i'm not really complaining but yes, i am complaining. i have been taking copious amounts of nyquil and all manner of medication. no good.

i am getting spring fever. i have been decluttering and throwing stuff out left and right. i am so ready for spring to be here- for more than a few days at least! i finished putting down the bricks for a flowerbed on one of the pretty days before i got sick, but i really hope i will be able to move. i only have 2 iris bulbs planted.

the reason?

i have found a property that i want to buy. it's a larger house, 11 acres and a shop. the shop brings in $800 a month rent and there is an additional $200 you earn monthly for leasing the space for a billboard. so say the note was $1400, i would only pay $400 for my house note. i'm working on getting my ducks in a row. so i can hopefully very soon dig up my 2 iris bulbs and plant them at the new house, on each side of the door.

a girl can dream, huh? but i am forging ahead. i have crunched the numbers and it seems like we qualify for a special loan program offered by our state.

i've got my fingers and toes crossed. please pray for me. this could be a very lucrative thing for me.

are we getting stupider?

we have a local newscaster here that was talking about a pharmacy robbery where they stole a bunch of xanax, and she pronounced it axe-an-axe.

another channel had the poor anchor talking about a trailer fire caused by "burning incest". he turned bright red as the news went to commercial, then he made a correction and said it was caused by "burning incense".

based on the part of town the trailer was located, it could have gone either way.

does anyone besides me get pissed when they are asked for their "social"? my "social" what: standing, event, disease? what? oh, did you mean my social security number?

i hate it.

it makes me want to bop them in the head.

i did notice that the president barack obama and judge judy have both on occasion used the word "social", but then they also used the word "social security number". i think they have only used it so that all the people who have iqs below 80 know what they are talking about.

does anyone get a social check? well, except maybe paris hilton.

well, at least i have that off my chance. another pet peeve- voice recognition routing menus "for the recptionist, save or enter zero" thingys. but i don't want to have a stroke and ruin what looks like a lovely week-end. i'll get on my soapbox about that some other time.

i plan on taking my granddaughter to see "gnomeo and juliet" and eat at steak-n-shake. let me post repeat steak-n-shake. maybe a coupon for steak-n-shake will magically appear on my page. yes, maybe the ad fairy that flys from blog to blog, conjuring up coupons with a swish of glitter and a wave of her wand. steak-n-shake. steak-n-shake. steak-n-shake.steak-n-shake. steak-n-shake. steak-n-shake. steak-n-shake.

what do you have on your plate for this week-end? provided we don't have snow tornadoes or the sun starts spitting fireballs? WHAT IS UP WITH THE WEATHER?

so easy

we have been grocery shopping in the mornings lately. that's when they put out the mark-down meats out in the meat case. great way to stretch the bucks! easy 50% off my meat bill, no couponing required!

so we have had lots of good meats to eat. it's been so cold lately i haven't been very hungry. i am not losing weight, so i guess my caveman genes have kicked in. i'm saving my fat  so it will last until spring.
